1. Selecting the Right Photo: Choose a photo with a clear subject and background. The subject should stand out well against the background to create a prominent 3D effect.

2. Preparing the Photo: Open your chosen photo in Photoshop. If necessary, make any adjustments to the brightness, contrast, or color balance to enhance the overall appearance of the image.

3. Creating the Depth Map: A depth map is essential for generating the 3D effect. This map determines which parts of the image will appear closer or farther away. To create a depth map:

* Duplicate the background layer.

* Desaturate the duplicated layer (Image > Adjustments > Desaturate).

* Adjust the levels (Image > Adjustments > Levels) to increase the contrast between the subject and the background. You want the subject to be white and the background to be black, with varying shades of gray in between to represent the depth.

* Use the brush tool with a soft brush to refine the transitions between different depth levels if necessary.

* Once satisfied with the depth map, save it as a separate file.

4. Setting Up the 3D Scene: With both the original image and the depth map open in Photoshop, go to the original image and convert it to a Smart Object (Right-click on the layer > Convert to Smart Object). This step allows for non-destructive editing.

* Now, go to 3D > New 3D Extrusion from Selected Layer. Photoshop will prompt you to select the depth map. Choose the depth map file you created earlier.

* Photoshop will then generate a 3D scene based on the depth map. You'll notice the subject of your photo now appears to pop out from the background.

5. Adjusting the 3D Settings: With the 3D scene created, you can adjust various settings to fine-tune the effect:

* Use the 3D panel to select different elements of the scene, such as the camera or the extrusion itself.

* Experiment with the position and angle of the camera to find the most visually appealing composition.
